Glasswerk Staff Albums of 2014

It’s been a funny old year for albums really, from the Mercury Music Prize casting a spotlight on the Scottish scene to the proliferation of ultra-aesthetically polished pop. Across the board, new material from big names was a major draw; Aphex Twin rose from the shadows of the dark web to drop his first new material for yonks, Thom Yorke tried to make BitTorrent a viable platform for purchasing music (and failed miserably) and Taylor Swift seemed to hold an infectious spell over the media with the release of her 1989 album. Notably though, something was stirring in the British Isles – throughout the Glasswerk staff we’ve been swept away by the British bands launching a visceral and undeniable assault on the mainstream – impossible to ignore, 2014 will be remembered as the year rock regained it’s bite.
