Watch: Benjamin Clementine – Nemesis

God this is good. Benjamin Clementine first came to our attention with a stunning performance on Jools Holland and now we’re suitably impressed with his latest single ‘Nemesis’ – you can check out the video below.

It’s a sweeping cinematic offering draped in strings, which documents the end of an affair when Clementine found himself back sleeping rough on the Parisian boulevard where his girlfriend once lived. All very bohemian chic and the perfect vehicle for Clementine’s frankly spine-tingling vocal performance, which becomes the heady highlight of this particular track. Intellectual and sombre with a smattering of vaudeville, there are dark shades of Nick Cave and Tom Waits lurking amongst the Jeff Buckley and Randy Newman references.

Breathtaking stuff, it’s enough to make you throw up your hands in despair at the rest of the sorry offerings filtering through this January.
