A Quick Chat With Stoneghost

On 27th April 2015 Stoneghost will release their relentless and blistering album ‘New Age of Old Ways’ on the Mascot Label Group (Black Label Society, Volbeat, Gojira, Joe Bonamassa), but the band very nearly never made it to this point. We caught up with front man Jason Smith to find out more…

When we first started playing music…
The band was started before I knew what notes were haha. I just really wanted to be in a band and try and make music like my idols. Times were a lot simpler when I was 15.

If we had to choose a new name for the band it would be *ogrebang* because…
It’s the vision I get when a big slow clumsy riff kicks in, like your trying to bang your head, whilst a filthy ogre is holding a chain around your neck trying to stop you.

We knew we were on to something when…
We stopped trying so hard. Write what feels good and natural, not what you think your mean’t to write. It’s easy to do in metal/rock. Don’t pigeon hole yourself, let everyone else do that.

Our biggest non-musical influences are…
Art/visuals, I’m a tattooist and artist for a living, I get a lot of influence from it. A good piece of art, be it tattoo or painting, can trigger some awesome thoughts.
