A Quick Chat With The Sundowners

Mystical Wirral-based psych quintet, The Sundowners, are soon to bestow their bewitching blend of psychedelic folk upon the wider public as they hatch plans for their first ever headline UK tour this February.

The announcement comes as they prepare to release their self-titled debut album ‘Sundowners’ on the 10th February 2015 via Skeleton Key Records, imprint of fellow local lads and family outfit the Skelly brothers, they of The Coral fame.

We caught up with Niamh Rowe from the band to find out what it’s like to follow in the footsteps of some local heroes…

When we first started playing music…
We started in 2010, but the first year or so was song writing and getting a set together. As soon as our drummer Jim joined we started gigging.

If we had to choose a new name for the band it would be *insert name* because…
‘Iron Horse’ – it’s the Red Indian name for train. We chose this because we’re really interested in their culture and philosophy.

We knew we were on to something when…
When Tim and Jim joined everything just fell into place. Then we recorded Hummingbird and we knew we had a good thing going together.

Our biggest non-musical influences are…
Hallucinogenics and Twin Peaks but never at the same time ha!

We’re most proud of…
Making our debut album and the reputation we’ve earned from playing live.

Our ideal support slot would be…
Tom Petty!

Something we haven’t achieved yet which we’d like to is…
Tour the US.

Our favourite place to hang out is…
Our practice room, it’s The Corals and they’ve got a great set up.

We can’t stop listening to…
Me and Fiona are really into Lucinda Williams at the moment, the lads are really into Air right now too.

We’re not ashamed to admit that…
We blow coke up eachothers ass’s haha! We all love Cher too!

If we could wave a magic wand and make anything in the world happen it would be…
Get rid of the 1% who control the worlds events and wealth.

Someone you might not have heard of that you should check out is…
Marvin Powell and Serpent Power.
