Drew: The Man Behind The Poster Review

drewThis is story of film poster artist Drew Struzan. Blade Runner, Big Trouble in Little China, Back to the Future Trilogy, Indiana Jones movies, Harry Potter, Star Wars special editions (and episodes 1-III) – You are familiar with his work!

A couple of books were released on Struzan a few years back by Titan publishing (the smaller of which makes an appearance in this doc). But it’s a great story behind a man who had it rough, found love, found work, had it rough again but ultimately came out on top and has managed to find further peace in life by simply doing what he wants to do – and continues to do – make art!.

This documentary charts – through the artists involvement the beginnings of his career long before he was creating posters for film studios (he was doing album covers before that). This is expanded into his personal life, including the relationship he has with his wife, and how hard they worked together to simply get by in life – including at a time when his work had become well known.

The amount of faces that show up in this documentary speaks volumes about how loved Drew is loved and how much of an impact on people’s careers and film’s success he has had.

This is a true film lovers’ documentary focussing on a well loved artistic part of film distribution.
