A Quick Chat With Phantom Runners

We caught up with Arron from Brighton band Phantom Runners as they release their new single ‘Laserbeam’ as a free download to speak about what it was like to be under the production guidance of multi-platinum selling Huey Morgan of Fun Lovin’ Criminals, receiving growing support for their debut EP by Jen Long and Jo Wiley, and the exciting year that lies ahead…

When we first started playing music…
About 2 years ago me and Ad started writing tracks, we adopted Sam about a year ago and we’ve been cracking on since then!

If we had to choose a new name for the band it would be *insert name* because…
*Dave* because why not?

We knew we were on to something when…
Well no-one booed us off stage or threw rotten fruit at us which was pretty encouraging… Jen Long played us on her radio show and then Huey Morgan came knocking to get us in the studio, so after that we thought that yeah, we might be able to do ok at this music thing.

Our biggest non-musical influences are…
Having no money, ex-girlfriends, current girlfriends, family, drinking, David Attenborough.

We’re most proud of…
We’re proud of a lot of stuff, seeing as we’ve done everything DIY we’ve toured the UK, been played on the radio, worked with great people in amazing studios… we’re just happy that people want to hear us and see us.

Our ideal support slot would be…
That’s a tough one, everyone is saying different bands for this! We’ll go with Phantom Runners supporting Arctic Moneys and Prince! Imagine that…

Something we haven’t achieved yet which we’d like to is…
We want to tour Europe this year, and hit some more festivals. If we can fund ourselves to get back in the studio we’d love to see some of our music synced on TV.

Our favourite place to hang out is…
The rehearsal room haha! Seriously we haven’t had time to just chill and hang out for months!

We can’t stop listening to…
I’ve been listening to Stevie Wonder for like a month solid, I just can’t stop listening to old Motown and early 70’s funk.

We’re not ashamed to admit that…
Adam watches Love Actually 3 times a week, and cries every time.

If we could wave a magic wand and make anything in the world happen it would be…
I’d make peanut butter vanish from existence for ever.

Someone you might not have heard of that you should check out is…
…Is who?? Oh please tell us! Check out Rhodes, that shit will explode onto radio this year.
