Video of the Day: Black Yaya- Glad Tidings

Here’s some more joyously curious pop from Herman Dune member turned solo Black Yaya – the video for ‘Glad Tidings’ is suitably obtuse and features a whole host of Yaya clones getting down to the misery-groove of the new single.

The track comes alongside his debut self-titled album out this week via City Slang, while Yaya, aka David Ivar, heads out on a full UK tour this April & will play at Rough Trade East tomorrow, March 4th.

“Glad Tidings is a song I wrote from a dream, the dream had its own narrative, I just had to make a song out of it” comments Ivar on the track “On my last tour I started using the sunblock I use for bodysurfing as some kind of stage make-up, which made me look a bit like Michael Keaton in Beetle Juice I thought. I really liked that make up thing, something I had never tried onstage and that gave me some kind of a feeling of strength… I wanted to use it in the video for Glad Tidings, maybe because there is a nightmare aspect to it, and also because the lyrics reference the Tim Burton movie for a second…”
