The Relic Review

relicdvdapril27Something is haunting the grounds at the Natural History Museum in Chicago – something big, with an appetite for human brains, and one hell of an asthmatic wheeze about the way that it breathes.

So it’s down to police investigator D’Agosta (Tom Sizemore) and resident nerd Margo Green (Penelope Ann Miller) try to figure out just what is stalking after people before it runs rampant on the general public (and with a big opening just hours away – you can be guaranteed of an incoming blood bath).

This was as silly, gruesome and as fun as you wanted a mid-budget monster movie from the mid-90s. A real guilty pleasure, and one – thanks to Peter Hyams countdown to the big event style film-making made it all the more tense and fun. It’s monster movie meets disaster movie towards the end as a large crowd get trapped and stalked. And there is also a decent working chemistry between the always watchable Sizemore and lady helping herself out of peril Miller.

The only major issue with this re-release is that it is you average basic DVD re-release. No Blu-ray treatment for the Relic yet, and certainly no extras.
