Introducing: Youth Man

Birmingham punks Youth Man are turning plenty of heads with their new EP ‘Hill of Knives’ which was released earlier this week – check it out in full below. The record is the eagerly awaited follow-up to their critically acclaimed 2014 debut ‘Bad Weather’ and is available to download digitally from their official bandcamp page.

Self-proclaiming themselves as the loudest live band in the UK, this rabid punk trio are out to defy convention, perception and expectation. With songs about tyranny, the hypocrisy of the West, isolation, the human experience and the largest organ in the human body, their dedication to presenting an honest and undiluted version of their music has led to them charming critics and audiences alike. Their enigmatic front woman Kaila Whyte is the driving force behind their impressive live show, an iconic figurehead for their erratic and off-kilter take on punk.

“Music should not always be easy to listen to;” say the band on their ethos “Music is expressive and dynamic. It should be loud and quiet, pleasant and unpleasant. Music should not have to fall into a precise category in order to be accepted. Female musicians are not gimmicks. Black rock musicians are not gimmicks.”

With forthcoming appearances at Reading & Leeds Festival, Afropunk Festival, Wickerman Festival, Hevy Fest, One Beat Fest and more to be announced, their unrelenting assault on the underground punk scene continues apace on their headline UK dates in May and June.
