A Quick Chat With: Stillhound

Stillhound released their debut single last month, showcasing a unique blend of atmospheric pop and emotive electronica. ’Seethe Unseen’ plots a marker in time for the Scottish four-piece consisting of school friends Fergus Cook, Laurie Corlett-Donald, Dave Lloyd and latest addition Cat Myers, having spent the last year in various studios and mountain lodges tirelessly developing their sound. We caught up with them to find out more and got a round of smart-Alec responses roundly slapped in our dumb faces. More fool us.

When we first started playing music…
We had left high school and had pretty unanimously decided not to continue studying. Music initially became a way to pass the time, there was no planning, it was all still pretty instinctual.

If we had to choose a new name for the band it would be ‘unbearable’ because…
We only recently went through this process and it was zero fun. Come to think of it, ‘Unbearable’ isn’t half bad…

We knew we were on to something when…
I stopped singing in faux-anglo and Dave introduced us to Deadmau5. (I was into Bloc Party in a big way and Dave often made short work of the DJ’s drum sample packs)

Our biggest non-musical influences are…
‘My Story’, ‘Only a Game?’, ‘The Second Half’, ‘My Autobiography’… The list goes on… That is if the list consists solely of football based biographies.

We’re most proud of…
David.

Our ideal support slot would be…
Pretty tough to agree on. For the most part our tastes align comfortably, however it gets a little trickier when agreeing on the musicians and artists we idolise. Spare a thought for Cat though, as before Dave Grohl’s recent mishap, she came crushingly close to supporting her heroes when Honeyblood were billed to support Foo Fighters.

Something we haven’t achieved yet which we’d like to is…
Peak friendship. We’re close, but not close enough.

Our favourite place to hang out is…
Dave’s folks’ place. They’ve stocked the cellar with apocalyptic amounts of wine and the cheese board is always on point.

We can’t stop listening to…
Tame Impala’s ‘Cause I’m A Man’. The synths are unashamedly throwback and the vocals float in all the right ways. Ticks all the boxes for us.

We’re not ashamed to admit that…
Laurie once received an ASBO.

If we could wave a magic wand and make anything in the world happen it would be…
a disaster.

Someone you might not have heard of that you should check out is…
C Duncan.
