Introducing: The British IBM

Cambridge-based trio the British IBM have announced that their new album ‘Psychopaths Dream In Black and White’ will be released on 4th September 2015. You can now stream ‘We Were The Stars’ – the first track taken from the new record – below.

Commenting on the track, frontman Adrian Killens says; “It started out life as a simple acoustic song and grew into something slightly more orchestral after we began to layer string sections played by the awesome Anna Scott who also appeared on our first album. After talking to a church band that happened to be rehearsing in the studio one day, I got to asking about choirs – one thing led to another and a few of choir members came in one Saturday morning. Lyrically it’s quite a dark track, although it may not sound like it, about the self-realisation of a business man coming to terms with his complete lack of empathy and realising that possessing this quality will actually lead to a fairly stress free life in which he can thrive.”

Offering a gentle mesh of indie rock and down-tempo, folk-tinged Americana the new material is reminiscent of the husky, melancholic dirges of Lambchop combined with the sensitive song-writing of the likes of Belle & Sebastian, Camera Obscura and Perfume Genius.

“The new record is an emotional album about unemotional people” explains Killens of the release “If it were a film it would be a cross between American Psycho and Fight Club.”

‘Psychopaths Dream in Black and White’ is released on Friday 4th September

2015 UK Live Dates:

25th July 2015 – Relevant Records, Cambridge
02nd October 2015 – Axe and Cleaver, Boston
