Boardmasters Celebrates Biggest Festival To Date

Boardmasters 2015 has been hailed the biggest and best year to date with over 150,000 in attendance across the festival week. Cornwall’s own surf and music festival kicked off on Wednesday 5th August at the surfing mecca Fistral Beach, where the WSL (World Surf League) competitions took place. The music then opened on Friday 8 August at the stunning Watergate Bay site.

The sold out Watergate Bay music site saw over 40,000 visitors attend across the weekend with highlights including headline sets from Bastille, Rudimental and Faithless. Plus astounding performances from the likes of Everything Everything, Sunset Sons, Seasick Steve, Reef, MNEK, Clean Bandit, Kim Churchill, Rae Morris, Nick Mulvey, Circa Waves, Raleigh Ritchie, Lower Than Atlantis, Laura Doggart, Lethal Bizzle, Rhodes and much much more.

The weekend also included secret DJ slots by Rag ‘n’ Bone Man and Raleigh Ritchie where festivalgoers had to sneak through a secret purple portaloo plus giant roaming balloon lobsters and singing fishermen performing on a boat. The Darkness’ Justin Hawkins was even seen ‘surfing’ through the crowd on a surfboard!

Festival organisers said, “‘We are absolutely thrilled with the success of this year’s festival. This is the biggest the event has ever been with a sold out audience of 40,000 in attendance at the Watergate Bay music site and over 150,000 across the festival as a whole. Once again, international world-class surfers came to compete in the Boardmasters surf competition and it’s been great to have WSL on board again for this year. Last night to close the event, Bastille put on a brilliant show giving the festival an epic final night.”
