Introducing: NOT OF

Welcome to the abrasive world of Toronto DIY duo Not Of, comprised of John Ex (guitar) and Jason Seance (drums). Self-described as “essentially a maximal/minimalist noise rock duo” the two musicians are nearly lifelong friends.

Commenting on the project, the band say; “Our names are obviously pseudonyms. Though you’ve likely heard some of our previous work, suffice to say that we’d rather it didn’t colour what we’re doing now.”

If we had to clumsily try and shoehorn them into a genre…actually, no, fuck that…Not Of are the sort of band that sound too important to subject to the usual lazy journalistic routines we’re all guilty of running through. It’s urgent, staccato, stuttering and slavering rock music that scratches all the itches you might have from that DFA 1979 shaped hole in your life – well, if that hole happened to filled with iron filings and barbed wire.

On the new video the band say; “It captures the claustrophobia of us compacting ourselves into our cramped rehearsal space — as well as the financial claustrophobia of having no budget. All of which is sorta loosely what “The Mark” is about, but let’s not get carried away here. It makes visual racket, and that’s what really matters.”
