Introducing: Cheap Meat

Meet the unlikely rock stars in London trio of newcomers Cheap Meat. They release their debut EP, ‘The Parts That Show’, on March 4th on Hassle Records and will play a free release show at The Black Heart in Camden, London on March 10th.

Maybe not the most auspicious rock and roll beginnings to ever be described, Ross Drummond (vocals and guitar) met Matt Rebeiro (drums) at a pub quiz hosted by ex-Coronation Street Star Martin Hancock. Does that matter? Not one bloody bit when they’re churning out tracks like the almighty nerd rock of the EP’s title track which you can check out below.

Like a meaty Weezer riff crashing headlong into the choked, Kermit The Frog vocals of Smoking Popes front man Josh Caterer, there’s a hell of a lot to like already about their powerful and melodic take on things, not least their authenticity and raw honesty which sticks out like a very welcome sore thumb amongst the auto-tuned, laminated dross that a lot of the alternative scene is currently drowning in.

“We want to be the band that makes you want to be in a band. I spent most of my teenage years growing my hair out and trying to be a bit Paul Simon and a bit Elliott Smith, but I would say silly things between songs and kill the vibe. When Matt and I started playing songs together, I remembered that you’re supposed to have fun” says Ross.
