New Zealand horror is riding an almighty high at the moment after the likes of What We Do In The Shadows and Housebound.
Throwing its fork into the fire is Deathgasm – a horror/comedy about a couple of Metal heads who somehow manage to summon evil forces that possess the local community. Yeah it’s about as flimsy as it all gets. At the heart of it is the outsiders versus everyone else aspect, but also the pros and cons of having such solid “bros” for friends – especially when one is weaker than the other, and the other is a complete dickhead who is happy to screw over his mates happiness.
All of this is fine and all, but its the general humour that keeps Deathgasm turning over, a short running time – but most of the credit has to go to the effects team who have done some sterling work for such a low budget indie.
You will see all types of dismemberment in this film, and it is all as glorious as you might expect – especially considering the 15 rating here in the UK.
Deathgasm is a riot to watch and highly recommended that you do so in the company of others. And what’s that we hear? A sequel is already in the works!
