Introducing: Heart of Oak

Southampton singer songwriter Jimmy Broomfield aka Heart of Oak has announced that his debut record will be released on May 1st 2016.

Named after the oak trees grown, harvested and sent to sea by his ancestors, Broomfield’s are heartfelt, earnest songs about the big themes in life delivered by a natural storyteller with a heart as big as his smile.

Pre-orders will begin next week, but in the meantime you can head to www.heartofoakmusic.com to hear the first song ‘Faded Flags’.

The track is typical of Broomfield’s heart on sleeve honesty and is a soaring slice of blue collar folk that tips its hat to punk roots and carries a sentimental, melancholic edge that sets it apart from the crowd. Reminiscent of the likes of The Lion & The Wolf, Frank Turner and PJ Bond, there’s a real and wistful campfire charm that’s hard to shake, and an emotional intensity that’s harder still to find amongst the clatter of new music pouring from the internet.

Fans can also sign up for a monthly newsletter that cuts to the chase on Broomfield’s view of building a relationship with his fans in the modern age: “It’s also a place where, hopefully, we can start to have a slightly slower and more longform conversation about the world, rather than drowning in the deluge of social media. (Not to say I’m not on that as well in all the usual places).”

Speaking about the track itself, he comments: “Recorded in a single day by my friend Bob Cooper – Music Producer it’s just me, the guitar and the sound of the room. I think it’s the closest I could get to reproducing the live sound I’ve been working on for the last few years. I am also so very, very honoured to feature the artwork of Vera Ickler an immensely talented tattoo artist and illustrator, not to mention a beloved friend. Much more will be said over the next few weeks, but just know that I am so excited to be sharing this journey with you all.”
