Our Local Scene: Whistlejacket

We caught up with Whistlejacket who recently released their ‘What I Ate On Sunday’ EP on Fierce Panda Records to find out more about their favourite bands and venues from their local music scene in London. Read on for their guide to the capital.

    THE BANDS:

WAW
“Formerly called Puffer whose lead single was release on Faris Badwan’s label RAFT records, they’re back under a new guise WAW. Their new music has been kind of kept under wraps to date but expect noise and lots of it.”

Babeheaven
“Based in West London, they’ve got a really calming sound and Nancy Andersen’s voice is pretty damn amazing. They like pizza almost as much as us, which makes us like them even more.”

A House in the Trees
“An electronic collective from round the corner from us. They incorporate all kinds of multi-visual effects and it seems like their group keeps on growing each time we seen them. I’ve heard rumours they might be converting a pub to use as a sort of creative platform which sounds mad.”

    LOCAL VENUES:

The majority of us live in South East London but sadly our best gigs have been played elsewhere as yet, but there’s a new pub called The Five bells opening, which we are all excited about. Here are some of our favourites:

Sebright Arms:
“Definitely one of our favourites, hidden in between Hoxton and Bethnal green. They serve great burgers and the two in house sound guys are so on point we always know we’re in safe hands when we’re on stage in the basement.”

The Marsha Arches in Bethnal green:
“Our first show here was a couple of years back and it was so awesome. The vibe was pretty mad and drinks were cheap. Everyone went a bit nuts to be honest! We also played a great show with DIIV there in the summer.”

The Shackwell Arms
“The Shackwell Arms has always been good to us. Whilst there might be better venues for sound, whether you’re playing to a packed room or three dudes stood at the back the atmosphere at the Shackwell is consistently amazing. What we like best about the venue is that it’s got this loud really booming sound… plus the pool table!”
