Preview: SXSW16

Austin, Texas’ prestigious music festival and conference South By South West kicks off its 2016 programme of music today so we’ve picked through some of the best performances to give you the details on who to see and where and when you should be heading to get the most out of the hundreds of bands on offer.

British music is always a big draw at the festival, with several showcases lined up that either feature UK bands or are curated by UK labels and companies. Here are a few at the top of our list:

Transgressive Records imprint paradYse has teamed up with Austin natives Sports Day records and London-based music PR company Brace Yourself for a special House Party at the legendary Pearl Street Co-op, featuring: SPECIAL GUESTS TBA, PARTYBABY, BLAENAVON, COSMO SHELDRAKE, JULIA JACKLIN, MIYA FOLICK, THEE MVP’S, TRANSGRESSIVE SOUND SYSTEM DJ’S, & SPECIAL GUESTS TBA. Young Entrepreneur Jamal Edwards’ digital music discovery platform SBTV will highlight the diverse sound of Britain at this year’s SXSW Festival, with SBTV presenting an official SXSW showcase in association with British Underground featuring performances from the UK’s best emerging artists including: Stormzy, Section Boyz, Shakka, Ghetts, Blakie (w/ Elf Kid), Mumdance and Iglooghost. Fluffer Pit Party at South by Southwest Festival

Following the unprecedented rise of Fluffer Pit Parties the label have been invited to take their infamous gig format to Austin, Texas this March. As always it will see some of the brightest new bands in the world perform in the centre of the venue with the crowd surrounding the 360. The Pit Party will take place in the backyard of Barracuda Bar, a popular venue right in the heart of Austin’s live music strip and feature headliners Australian grunge heroes DZ Deathrays as well as 5 other hand-picked artists:
Plague Vendor, Demob Happy, Death Valley Girls, Gym Shorts and Muuy Biien.
