Playlist: Vita Bergen – Spring Mixtape

Since releasing their debut EP Curtains on a $500 budget in 2014, Vita Bergen have become one of the most talked about bands in Europe. They’ve topped the iTunes charts, performed at sold out venues in Germany, Switzerland and Scandinavia and are being played on national television in the US. They’ve received several awards in Sweden and are believed by many to be the next big thing on the European indie scene.

Their new album ‘Disconnection’ is out now via Glitterhouse Records, so we caught up with front man William Hellström to find out more about their influences in a special Spring Mixtape that he’s put together exclusively for Glasswerk.

You can check out the video for their new single ‘Replace’ here:

VITA BERGAN – Spring Mixtape Tracklist:

Neil Young – Transfomer Man
This has been my favorite track for over a year now. It’s probably one of the best tracks from Neil Young with the least exposure. From the all-electronic album Trans (1982) which made a lot of people turn their backs. Will be on my all-times favorites list. Don’t miss out!

The Brian Jonestown Massacre – The Devil May Care (Mom and Dad Don’t)
Probably everyone has seen the Dig! Documentary. Anyway, this track always shows up in my head when the Swedish winter fades away. Like a lullaby. Glad they’re out touring again.

David Bowie – Sound and Vision
Great mix. Awesome song. The verse starts at 1:47. I don’t really know what to say about it or David Bowie. He was one of the great if not the greatest and no one will be like him. Hope you like it.

Wolf Parade – I’ll Believe in Anything
Wolf Parade (Canada) is one of the reasons Robert and I got together and started a band in the first place. A bit schizophrenic, epic, with weird Scottish high-land-vibes – what’s in it not to like?

Alessi Brothers – Seabird
It’s hard to feel less troubled when listening to a song. The Alessi Brothers were identical twin brothers and had a hit with Saving the Day which was a Ghostbuster theme song. Springtime? Yeah.

Townes van Zandt – Like a Summer Thursday
It says “summer” in the title but I always associate it with spring. The opening track for Townes van Zandt’s best album “Our Mother the Mountain”.

Youth Lagoon – Highway Patrol Stun Gun
This is the best song from the new Youth Lagoon album. Unfortunately it looks like it will be the last Youth Lagoon album, too. But hopefully we’ll see more from Trevor Powers in the future.

Wilco – California Stars
This is a song that Wilco wrote with old unpublished Woody Guthrie poems as lyrics. If you’ve read Bob Dylan’s Chronicles you’ll know that Dylan himself one time was supposed to receive the poems in the 60’s when he’d befriended Woody in his last years, but when he went to get them from his house they couldn’t be found. Instead they ended up with Wilco and Billy Bragg roughly 40 years after, as they made the album Mermaid Avenue together.

Sunset Rubdown – Mending of the Gown
A song by one of my favorite artists, Spencer Krug. He’s had many bands during his carreer but is perhaps best known for Wolf Parade. This song is both great and ridiculous at the same time. I love it. These days he’s working under the moniker Moonface and makes amazing acoustic piano songs. Check out the album “Julia with Blue Jeans on”.

Paul Simon – Graceland
A classic song by Paul Simon. Just wait for the chord change at 0:25 and you’re hooked.
