Top 3 Reasons to Love The Killers Forever

The Killers are an American rock band that was formed in 2001 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The band is comprised of vocalist Brandon Flowers, guitarist Dave Keuning, bassist Mark Stoermer, and Ronnie Vannuci on drums. With their upcoming 2017 UK concert tour in November, now is a great time to look back at how fans of all ages from all over the world started to fall in love with one of the biggest rock bands of the 21st century.

They Performed on The OC
Back in 2004 when teenagers all over the globe were obsessed with the hit TV drama series The OC, The Killers played their songs live at The Bait Shop, a club near the beach in Newport. Their performance is considered as one of the most iconic acts in The Bait Shop. This was just after the band released their debut album Hot Fuss, which was played during Seth and Ryan’s awkward double date which ended up in a dramatic conclusion when both of their exes showed up.

Brandon and the gang played Smile Like You Mean It, Everything Will Be Alright, and Mr. Brightside which, as Seth Cohen said, were “awesome”. This was before the band was making headlines in countries worldwide with Mr Brightside as one of the best indie rock anthems of the 21st Century, which has been on the UK charts every year since it was released in 2004 up to this day.

They Added Romance in Vegas

When you mention Las Vegas, the first thing that comes to mind are casinos, and most artists who have incorporated the Sin City in their songs or music videos usually focused on the glamour and excitement associated with engaging in the various casino tables games like poker, baccarat, blackjack, and roulette. The Killers had a go at a Las Vegas-themed song and music video too, to add to the long list of casino and Vegas-inspired songs in rock and pop music. We’ve all heard Lady Gaga’s popular song, Poker Face, and older generations would still remember Elvis Presley’s Viva Las Vegas which, coincidentally, both contain lyrics about the game of poker and it is no surprise why.

Poker is such a widely loved casino game, which is why the annual World Series of Poker (WSOP) has been drawing thousands of attendees every year since 1970. And just like most in demand concert events, several promotions are held to give poker fanatics a chance to be part of WSOP. In 2017, the official sponsor of the event, 888poker, held a series of promotions such as “$10 BLAST Sit & Go” tournaments where players can win a $12,500 WSOP package by hitting the 1,250-prize pool, and the “Spin Your Way to Vegas” promotion which gave away exclusive packages to the WSOP Main Event.

But the lead song from the band’s compilation album, Direct Hits, titled Shot at the Night gives Vegas a different, romantic touch. The song’s music video features an uninspired hotel maid who almost hit a gentleman on her way to work only to meet him again in the hotel where she is employed. He invites her to join him and his friends, she is given a makeover, and they spent an amazing night all around Vegas which ended with a sweet kiss. The music video simply makes you fall in love with the characters and also with Vegas itself. Which is no wonder that it was ranked by the Las Vegas Review Journal as the second best music video filmed in Las Vegas.

Even Prince Harry Loves The Killers
If Prince Harry loves them, why shouldn’t we? In their 2017 Barclaycard presents British Summer Time Hyde Park concert, the prince was one among the audience of 65,000 people welcomed back The Killers who return to London after four years since their last event. It was apparent that Prince Harry was having fun at the concert, as he was spotted taking pictures with his friends in the VIP terrace area. The Killers’ concert was the festival’s fastest-selling event since the Rolling Stones performed in 2013.

More than a decade after we first heard their debut album, The Killers are still sweeping us off our feet. Truly, great artists and their music creations never get old.
