Norwich-based trio Young States have released a new single ‘Stand Alone’ complete with a moody monochrome music video.
‘Stand Alone’ is about trying to find the divide between what is yourself and what is anxiety. Georgia Leeder (vocals, bass) says, “It was cool being able to write about anxiety from a different perspective, and the idea of trying to separate yourself from it. This inspired the idea for the single shots in the music video, with the lighting solely on us so it seems like we’re isolated.”
The band formed when vocalist Georgia was just 17 and Young States cut their teeth with two hook-laden EPs ‘Down To You’ and ‘Past Truths | Present Lies’. As they developed and ultimately ended up taking some time out, half of the original line-up decided they were out and the other half ended up regrouping at the end of 2018 with a refreshed outlook and desire, and a new drummer, Ben Brennan.
Young States dove headfirst into writing and crafted a clutch of new songs, which they then worked on at Steel City Studios in Sheffield with producer Drew Lawson. Libby Irons (guitar, backing vocals) says of their new music, “Stand Alone was the first song we’d written after our hiatus, and honestly it made us remember why we started the band in the first place.”
