The Ella Sisters release new Christmas single ‘Drunk On December’

Norwegian twins The Ella Sister share the festive spirit on personal new single ‘Drunk On December’, lifted from the band’s forthcoming EP ‘Sugarcoat’ due 2021.

They say: “We wrote lots of music while social distancing and we wanted to share a nostalgic and longing Christmas tune, not put in the calendar until autumn hit. This is us and we guess pretty much everyone else, looking back on a challenging year. The song is minimalistic and raw and gives an honest depiction of the young heart not able to rest or fit in.”

Drawing on a myriad of influences from, pop, rock, soul and RnB, The Ella Sisters’ debut EP ‘Queens’ released in August 2020 chalked up radio plays across Norway and Germany and was featured in tastemaker press like Billboard, Popmatters and Kaltblut Magazine. The twins now continue their foray forward with EP number 2, the second instalment to their on going body of work.

The girls explain: “‘Sugarcoat’ is our sophomore EP and is written as chapter 2 of our debut ‘Queens EP’. It tackles themes of underestimation and confidence, however this EP goes even further into personal relations and the restlessness of being young at heart. It explores the understanding of bad behaviour, which is the underlying theme in the two-parted project. In the song-writing process, we were dedicated to being as honest as possible. It was quite therapeutic.”

Growing up along the scenic southern coast of Norway, twins Maren and Charlotte have had space for creativity and writing. Drawing inspiration from the landscape around them, their music is imbibed with tons of energy, honest lyrics, big choruses, and harmonies within a playful and captivating pop soundscape. The duo’s songs are inspired by being young and questioning the world we live in, delving into topics of identity, mental health, being underestimated and finding confidence in yourself. A combination of courage and tenderness, the band have played showcases in the UK and Norway, a fresh act making their mark in 2020 and beyond.
