Line-up Announced for The Gathering Festival 2022

The Gathering Festival will return to the historic Northern Meeting Park in Inverness on the 28th May 2022 with an incredible line up of traditional music including, Highland award winning indie folk band ELEPHANT SESSIONS and one of Scotland’s most influential folk acts CAPERCAILLIE.

Following two consecutive sold-out festivals, The Gathering will make its third outing in Inverness, celebrating the very best music, culture, food and drink from across the Highlands and Scotland next May.

Leading the line-up announcement are winners of the BBC Scots Trad Music Awards ‘Album of the Year’ 2017 and ‘Live Act of the Year’ 2018, the Highland’s own ELEPHANT SESSIONS. Creating a progressive blend of intricate tunes, engulfing guitars, with a bass and drum heavy backline, their music combines the very best of trad, funk and electronica resulting in a new and exciting sound. Renowned for their breath-taking live shows the band have made live appearances at some of the most notable venues and festivals across the U.K, Europe and Australia, including Glastonbury, Byron Bay Bluesfest, Colours of Ostrava and multiple headline sell-outs at Celtic Connections.

Joining them are Scottish folk band CAPERCAILLIE who have long ranked in the very top echelon of contemporary Celtic acts, illuminating the timeless allure of ancient traditions within today’s global musical context. They are widely credited with spearheading today’s Gaelic music revival, not least as the first band ever to take a traditional Gaelic song into the UK Top 40. Fronted by the sublime, silk-velvet vocals of Karen Matheson, they’ve sold over a million albums worldwide, seamlessly splicing the centuries-old with the cutting-edge, while maintaining their reputation among the best live acts on the circuit.

Other acts appearing at the festival include one of Scotland’s best-known names in contemporary folk, the Isle of Skye’s multi-award winning PEATBOG FAERIES; the iconic and respected Scottish supergroup MANRAN; local favourites and The Gathering’s unofficial house band TORRIDON; with their roots in Scottish and Irish traditional music, including traditional Scots song and Scottish piping tunes and Irish banjo, HERON VALLEY will make their Gathering debut; also on the bill are neo-trad trio PROJECT SMOK whose nonconformist and progressive Scottish traditional music has set them apart since their formation in 2017; vibrant six-piece HEISK are a powerful force on the folk scene with their relentlessly energetic music; and final act for the moment is the CITY OF INVERNESS YOUTH PIPE BAND.

We are over the moon to be announcing the line-up for the third Gathering Festival in 2022. Delivering this year’s event was extremely challenging but resulted in an incredibly special event for everyone involved from our staff and suppliers to artists and audience. We can’t wait to welcome everyone back to Inverness next May and enjoy some of the best music from the Highlands and Scotland!‘ Dougie Brown Event Producer
