INTRODUCING: SWEEPING PROMISES

Sub Pop welcome Lawrence, KS-based duo Sweeping Promises as they share new single Pain Without A Touch” and announce UK and European live dates for next year.

After carving out their thrifty and disciplined approach to songwriting under various guises, Sweeping Promises was born in a disused and reverberant concrete laboratory in Cambridge, MA. Lira Mondal and Caufield Schnug tracked with a self-devised “single-mic technique” and mixed in mono, completing their debut ‘Hunger for a Way Out’ – a post-punk leaning gem of unpolished DIY sound – just in time to enter quarantine. It sees angular guitars and sharp synth notes float atop a raw rhythm section, while Mondal’s effervescent vocals truly define Sweeping Promises’ sound. There’s something simple yet otherworldly about these tracks – you have the DIY prowess of Kleenex/LiLiPUT and Girls at Our Best!, a brooding new wave-y minimal synth sound woven in, and an undeniable pop-leaning appeal captured in vibrant monaural glory.

Pain Without a Touch is the first new music from Sweeping Promises, since their 2020 debut, and their first release for Sub Pop Records. Sub Pop and Feel It Records (who released Hunger for a Way Out, and shepherded the LP through its nine pressings to date) are partnering on the urgent new single, out digitally today from Feel It in North America and Sub Pop for the rest of the world.
