Wet Leg’s debut album shortlisted for 2022’s Mercury Prize

Today, Wet Leg‘s self-titled debut album has been shortlisted as an Album of the Year for the 2022 Mercury Prize with FREE NOW.

Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers said of the accolade: “It’s been just over a year since our first gig and we are all still in shock at where this journey has taken us. When we started the band, we never really thought we’d get the opportunity to make any recordings at all, let alone a whole album…and now to have that album nominated for a Mercury has left us absolutely lost for words. We feel very lucky that we got to make the album that we made. Thanks to everyone who helped us along the way. Feeling very proud and grateful today.”

Released in April following a string of equally excellent singles, Wet Leg charted at Number 1 and has already become the biggest selling UK debut for the first half of the year. The duo have also clocked up over 120 million streams globally and have sold out their live shows across the world.

Additionally, the band are pleased to be nominated in two categories at the 2022 Aim Awards including UK Independent Breakthrough and Best Independent Track for “Chaise Longue” – their debut single, released just over a year ago.

Whilst on their first ever tour of Australia earlier this month, Wet Leg recorded a cover of The Chats’ “iconic” “Smoko” for Triple J’s Like A Version.
