Swedish singer/songwriter Varas returns with Blur-esque indie-pop track ‘Gotta Go’
Multi-faceted Swedish singer/songwriter Varas is back with his brand-new single ‘Gotta Go’, fresh off the back of his recently released EP ‘There You Go!’, and dropping via TEN Music Group.
Varas’ new single ‘Gotta Go’ features a Blur-esque guitar riff, and is complete with his signature indie, alt-pop sound and up-tempo, catchy background vocals. The track was made during the same sessions as Varas’ second EP ‘There You Go!’. He felt as though the single needed to see the light of day, using this release as a fitting end to this era of sound he’s been creating. The EP is the latest addition to Varas’ varied roster and saw him transporting his musical artistry into new territory. Featuring singles ‘New Light’, ‘Hell No’ and ‘Careful What You Wish For’, the recipe for the EP remained very much the same – strong melodies, diverse vocals, direct songwriting and all the while remaining sweetly simple.
Speaking of the single, Varas said: “Gotta Go touches on times of idiotic admiration. When you put someone on a pedestal and nothing can pull them down from it. The consequences could be heavenly or a living hell, and that’s the charm of it.”
Musically, Varas deals in short, solid, almost-pop songs, but pop songs that aren’t afraid to
stray into unexpected areas, and taking influences from classic 70s rock, punk, hip-hop, jazz, soul. His signature sound reflects that of a multifaceted artist with references ranging all the way from Queen to Rolling Stones to Tyler, the Creator and Pharrell Williams.
Benjamin Muñoz Varas is the self-taught producer, singer and songwriter that goes under the moniker Varas. The promising 25-year-old has carved out his own expression in which each song has the melodies to pull you in on first listen and leave a mark on you. Combined with an aesthetic that syncs well with Gen-Z, he brings something fresh and exciting to the contemporary indie scene.
With roots in Chile, Varas grew up in a small town called Götene in Sweden. At the age of 12, he started to play guitar after being introduced to Led Zeppelin by his father who at the time worked as a choreographer and dancer participating in various musicals. Varas’ desire to be on stage was clear from an early age.
Varas’ new single ‘Gotta Go’ is due for release on 14th July 2023 via TEN Music Group.
