Toucan is the alter ego of Irish soul singer Conor Clancy. Hailing from Tramore in County Waterford, Toucan’s debut single We Fell For Miles reached over 3 million steams on Spotify, This four track EP is his first release since that success and showcases his undoubted vocal talents nicely.
The opening track Don’t Understand Why is smooth and soulful, the rich vocals over brass accompaniment giving a classic soul sound. The reflective love song You At Last follows, with some subtle guitar work backing slower vocal delivery. If This Isn’t Love has a minimalist approach, allowing Toucan’s vocals to dominate. The female backing vocal on the chorus adds a slightly different feel here. The closing Where You Go is similar, with only guitar backing the vocals.
Toucan has a voice that is made for soul music. These songs add a modern pop feel to the classic sound, giving a bright and summery feel. It’s well worth a listen – preferably with a long cool drink on a hot afternoon.
