Picante is returning to Liverpool this spring. Capturing the city’s imagination last year, the Mexican-inspired cantina brought a fun and fiery taste of Guadalajara to Liverpool. With incredible food and next-level cocktails – especially their magical margaritas – Picante splashed vibrant colours, sounds and tastes across the Cains Brewery Village.
And now the team are coming back for their second season and launch on Friday 13th March. Their wild fusion of a margarita mecca, street-food hotspot and Latin house party – infused with plentiful agave – is ready to kick-start spring into action.
New additions at Picante for 2026 include their Bottomless brunch, Bottomless wing Wednesday, 20% off the back bar drinks every Thursday and Happy hour every day after 8pm. Picante will be showing World Cup games during June and July and daytime parties on the sun-kissed Más terrace will run through the summer, with externally promoted events and in-house sessions.
There are lots of new drinks and dishes to try. These include the sensational Hot Honey Daisy, Churros Old Fashioned, Baja Blast and the Mexican Wave cocktails, plus there are Mini Dirti Margatinis at £5 a pop and 90 mins Bottomless Micheladas and Bloody Maria’s during brunch service. And from the kitchen, new dishes include the absolutely banging the Coconut shrimp taco and Vegan Birria taco, Crispy chicharrone and jalapeño poppers sides and Mc-apple pie quesadilla for dessert. These are in addition to Picante’s huge range of tequilas, classic and bespoke cocktails and Mexican beers, to their delicious menu of light bites and sweet treats.
Picante’s Margarita Masterclasses are back, hosted by Cocktail Kate. Each Saturday session is 90 minutes where guests learn how Margaritas took over the world, whilst crafting three different margaritas of their own from scratch, plus tequila tasting and quesadillas to round off the afternoon. And one Friday per month Picante are hosting Tequila Tasting Fridays to explore and savour three different types of tequila – Blanco, Reposado and Anejo.
The quartet behind Picante are a collective of the city’s independent hospitality figures uniting again, with Joe Wild (Taco or Don’t), Kate Meehan (Gin Journey, Paloma Café, London) Sally Jo Whitlow (Jenny’s Bar) and Danny Murphy (originally behind Jenny’s Bar, Berry & Rye, Aloha, Botanical Garden, and Some Place).
Danny Murphy says: “Our debut season with Picante exceeded all of our expectations – we absolutely loved introducing our Mexican cantina concept to the city in 2025 and genuinely we
were blown away by how much people loved it. The feedback has been truly wonderful since day one and we can’t thank everyone enough for their support for Picante. And now for 2026, we’re coming back bigger and better, with new dishes and cocktails to try, monthly Tequila Tasting Fridays sessions, Kate’s back with her Margarita masterclasses and we will have day parties up on the Más terrace. We’re bringing back the high energy, fiery fun and warmly welcoming Picante vibes, perfect for the forthcoming spring and summer seasons – and hopefully we get lots of sunshine, too! Don’t forget Picante means spicy in Spanish, and that’s exactly what we’re all about, bringing the heat to Liverpool again from Friday March 13th.”
After the launch weekend, Picante will be open every Wednesday to Sunday until the end of September.
