Searching For Sugarman Blu-ray Review

Mexican-American singer songwriter Sixto Rodrigeuz made a couple of albums back in the early 70’s, Both of which flopped and caused the artist to fall away into obscurity amid tales of his eventual demise.

In the interim his music made its way to South Africa during the apartheid period and he became a national sensation.

Searching for sugarman charts as much of the artists past that is found. There are rumours of how the artist ended up taking his life, a lose trail back to the record producers, and very few actual people who have any stories to tell of the man. In South Africa it becomes very clear how big the artist came, and the important part his music played to the people there, and how an investigation into the artis’ts history opened up a whole new can of worms that changed the mystique of his story for the people there forever.

This is a wonderfully straight forward documentary featuring some of the best obscure music you are likely to hear for a while. The narrative never flops as at regular interims.

The disc comes with a decent Commentary and a very revealing making of documentary. A documentary worth every penny!
