Despicable Me 2 Review

Gru and his minions are back for a second installment, but this time on the other side of the law, working for the Anti-Villain League. When a top secret formula is stolen, it’s up to Gru to track it down – luckily he’s got a new and rather attractive sidekick to help him locate the serum and track down the elusive El Macho.

Fans of the minions in the first film will love this gag-tastic film, which had both the parents and children laughing all the way through. There is a particularly funny music video at the end, which was well worth the wait.

Watching the film with a child-dominated audience, I began to really appreciate it. It recognises that its audience is a few years younger than Pixar’s crowd and hits that demographic well. With a gag every thirty seconds it maintains interest almost all the way through and the weak plot and character development aren’t that important once you realise children at that age aren’t following the plot anyway. All they want to see is Gru dressed up as a fairy godmother and the minions making a variety of squeaky faces.

A solid summer holiday offering for younger audiences with enough laughs for parents to enjoy themselves too. It is funny and you can anticipate your young ones watching it on hard rotation.
