Surf Nazis Must Die Review

Troma have expanded their breed of gratuitous gore and violence onto the post-apocalyptic beaches of California.

In an obvious nod to the likes of a Clockwork Orange and the Warriors, Surf Nazis Must Die focuses on the gangs that rule the sand and the waves and the one gang that rule them all, The Surf Nazis! Led by Adolf (how long did it take to come up with this character’s name?) the punk looking misfits control all with their lust for crime, mayhem and destruction.

When a young African American called Leroy tries to stop the gang from mugging an old lady he is brutally murdered. What the gang didn’t bank on was the repercussions of this fatal attack in the form of revenge and retribution by…….. His Mama!

The story itself is a simple tale told many many times before and doesn’t really add anything new. If anything it also lacks some of the gratuitous “charm” that we have come to love from Troma titles such as Toxic Avenger and class of Nuke em’ High. There are less laughs, less outright disgusting gore and not much in the way of nudity and cheesy sex scenes. This has however been replaced with more storyline which just made the film feel dragged out and for the first hour a little dull.

All that aside, this hasn’t stopped Arrow Video working its magic and giving it their loving touch and slapping on a heap of extras for good measure!

This edition features the director’s cut of the movie with interviews with both the director Peter George and producer Robert Tinnell.

For your hard earned dollar, fans of this outing will also be treated to 6 deleted scenes which are introduced by Mr George himself.

Throw in Arrows standard collectors booklet and newly commissioned artwork and you have the best edition of this film on the market that will whet the appetite of any hard core Troma fan.
