From the weird and wonderful minds of horrors greatest new directors comes the 2nd installment of the See No Evil franchise. The Soska sisters (Dead Hooker in a Trunk & American Mary) breathe life back into the towering powerhouse, Jacob Goodnight (Glenn “KANE” Jacobs).
Set directly after Jacobs’s last killing spree, See No Evil 2 takes place in the hospital morgue where Jacob and his victims have been taken in.
Its Amy’s birthday (the great scream queen Danielle Harris), and thanks to Mr Goodnight, she has to trade her night out with her friends for a night in with the cadavers and work colleagues.
But not wanting to miss out on a party, her friend Tamara (played superbly by Katherine Isabelle of American Mary and Gingersnaps fame) decides to bring the party to her.
What Amy and her friends didn’t realise is that this party would have a gate crasher, and crash the party he did!!
If you’re a fan of the original See no Evil, then you will not be disappointed with this much smarter, funnier and just damn well what the horror genre needed take of the Jacob Goodnight story!
Glenn “KANE” Jacobs is just amazing as the religious serial Killer and his sheer size alone and menacing look is a joy to watch as he tears his way through the victims. With an array of hospital equipment which is put to good use, See No Evil 2 will easily put him right up there with the other horror greats like Jason and Michael Myers. Especially now he has a mask!
But it’s not Just Jacobs character that shines in this movie, the rest of the cast also add meat to the bones of SNE2. With an outstanding performance from Danielle Harris as the girl most likely to stop Jacob in his tracks and the outrageous Katherine Isabelle playing a character that ONLY she could play so well, you actually find yourself not wanting any of these characters to fall into the hands of the killer. Strange for a horror movie I know. But unlike the characters in the first movie that couldn’t get killed off quickly enough, the pawns in Jacob Goodnights game this time round were likable and it worked well!
It’s very distinctive also that this was a Soska Sisters outing and you can tell these girls live, breath and bleed horror films and know exactly want the horror fan wants, and they know how to deliver an outstanding horror film.
The disc comes with only a few extras but there well worth a look, with an interview with the sisters themselves about their journey in becoming the next big thing in the horror industry and a great interview with the man himself Glenn Jacobs, on his WWE fame and beyond.
It’s been a long time coming, but Hollywood has found its next greatest serial killer in Jacob Goodnight and he owes it all to Jen and Sylvia Soska!
If you only buy 1 horror film this Halloween, make sure this is top of your list! You won’t be disappointed!
