Hazard Review

101FILMS122_hazardDespite a zero budget and a horrible SHOT ON VIDEO look, the writing and cast are at least entertaining enough in this fairly disposable Hazard!

We are in reality TV land with this flick as a group of media pranksters find themselves trapped in a rundown facility when one of their number decides to lose his mind and stark axing his way through his co-workers with the rest of the team watching on a wide array of set up live feed cameras.

The nice thing about Hazard is that although it takes a little while to set up, there is a deft sense of “tongues gently in their cheeks”, and a few witty one-liners along the way to aid viewings along. So the writing at least gets a pat on the back for some of the dialogue.

The acting is a real pick and mix of capable and deplorable.

What will be a tougher sell for audiences though is the lack of effects and the overhaul of off screen violence. A horror films budget tends to have money thrown at the look and effects. Here the opposite seems to apply. But when you do see what effects work they have spent money on you end up glad there isn’t more (yes we mean you paper mashe head).

But a game cast actually make this bearable to watch for the most part. Don’t get us wrong. This is a “one and done” kind of deal, but we were shocked to come away feeling like we had been entertained. Give these guys a bigger budget and let’s see what they can do with their next feature.
