Barclaycard presents British Summer Time Hyde Park completes its first weekend of music with special guests added for Roger Waters (6th July), The Cure (7th July) and Eric Clapton (8th July).
Pink Floyd visionary Roger Waters is famous for taking his sonic and visual experimentation to breath-taking levels, turning rock n roll into theatre on the grandest scale. His 2018 Hyde Park performance promises to be no exception, following months of meticulous planning and craft, it will inspire crowds with its powerful delivery to take the audience on a musical journey.
Joining Waters on Friday 6th July are American rock trio X Ambassadors, who have produced hits including “Jungle”, “Renegades” and “Unsteady” and worked alongside the likes of Bebe Rexha, Machine Gun Kelly, and Eminem. And Mancunian rock quartet Slydigs, who have previously supported The Who on their ‘Back To The Who Tour 51!’ Tour. Also joining the first day of the festival is singer-songwriter Colin Macleod, CC Smugglers and Lil & Ollie. Already announced are Richard Ashcroft, Seasick Steve, and Squeeze.
The Cure have chosen Barclaycard presents British Summer Time Hyde Park for a truly unique celebration of their 40th anniversary. With more than 30 million combined sales of 13 studio albums and more than 40 singles, the band are both commercially and critically acclaimed. They have helped shape the post-punk musical landscape in the UK, bringing alternative rock to charts around the world.
Added to the bill for Saturday 7th July is Irish indie-folk artist Lisa Hannigan, a Mercury Prize nominee who achieved critical success with her 2016 album ‘At Swim’, and English goth-poppers Pale Waves, who recently scooped the NME Under The Radar Award 2018 and have since gone on to dominate headlines across the country.
Also joining the day is experimental rock trio This Will Destroy You and Scottish singer-songwriter Kathryn Joseph. Already announced on the line up are Interpol, Goldfrapp, Editors, Ride, and Slowdive.
With a decades-long career and countless accolades to his name, Eric Clapton is also something of a local, having first played Hyde Park with Blind Faith on June 7th, 1969 alongside bandmates Ginger Baker, Steve Winwood and Rick Grech to a 120,000 strong audience – it was the band’s debut. He returned to the Royal Park in 1996, recording a classic live concert that raised money for The Prince’s Trust, again in 2008 and has played over 200 times at the nearby Royal Albert Hall.
Joining Eric Clapton to close the first weekend is legendary Italian singer Zucchero, whose career spans more than three decades with sales of over 60 million records worldwide.
Pop-rock duo Chas & Dave have had eight Top 40 hit singles, their major breakthrough being “Gertcha” in 1979. The duo stole the show with their last British Summer Time Hyde Park performance last year, with huge crowds swarming the Summer Stage to watch the cockney legends perform the hits. Their new album ‘A Little Bit Of Us’ is out today, their first album in three decades to feature brand new Chas & Dave songs.
Chas says, “We are very much looking forward to returning to British Summer Time Hyde Park this year. Especially as we’re supporting our mate, Eric! This lot are in for a treat as we’ll be performing a few songs from our new album – which includes our first new material to be released in 30 years”.
