As proud supporters of 2018’s Independent Venue Week, this February The Joe Strummer Foundation will be presenting a special show in the too often overlooked seaside town of Hastings, East Sussex. Bringing some of the most vital young talents the country has to offer to much loved local venue The Brass Monkey, Strummerville-On-Sea will present an incredible bill of Arrows Of Love, Bloody Knees, Yowl, Lice and Heavy Lungs.
The Joe Strummer Foundation will keep door prices to a minimum and pay all acts as well as raising much-needed funds and awareness for the charity.
Arrows of Love are, above all, a live phenomenon. Originally aligned with the early East London wave of bohemian rock bands, it was their fiercely independent and creative drive that has taken them across the globe to the likes of SXSW and End of the Road, sharing stages with the likes of The Fall, Buzzcocks, British Sea Power, 80’s Matchbox B-Line Disaster, The Wytches and many more. It’s on stage where London’s own Arrows truly hit home.
BLOODY KNEES are A collective of noise-makers and one of London’s most exciting acts. As teenagers, BK took their infectious spirit to the masses playing festivals across the country and shows alongside the likes of Wolf Alice, The Magic Gang, Swim Deep and Superfood.
YOWL – Nobody’s happy putting up with poor job prospects and a city pricing out the poorest, but the Peckham-formed YOWL capture a frustration of the 9-to-5 London grind like few others.
LICE – Satirical art-punk band LICE have emerged from Bristol’s artistic community and embarked on a historic, noble crusade.
Heavy Lungs – Still in the very early stages of their burgeoning career, abrasive four piece Heavy Lungs have already found themselves sharing stages with the likes of Sub Pop noise rockers Metz. With only one track to their name they’re already becoming one of the country’s most vital bands.
All proceeds towards the Joe Strummer Foundation fund who provide opportunities to musicians and support to projects around the world that create empowerment through music. Tickets cost £7 including booking fees.
Independent Venue Week is a 7 day celebration of small music venues around the UK and a nod to the people that own, run and work in them, week in, week out and… get out and support local music!
