Hope and Glory Festival Comes To Liverpool

On the weekend of 5/6 August 2017 Liverpool’s iconic Victorian Quarter will host brand new festival Hope & Glory. The weekend will see some of the very best bands perform amidst a decadent carnival of Victoriana, all set against the unique backdrop of the city’s World Museum, Library and St George’s Hall and Gardens. With the Great Exhibition Stage featuring acts including James, Razorlight, Public Service Broadcasting and more, and the Wonders of the Age stage seeing appearances ranging from Starsailor and Lucy Spraggan to The Ordinary Boys, all combined with a programme of comedy, exhibitions, food and drink, Hope & Glory promises to be a magnificent addition to Liverpool’s world famous summer music scene.

Starsailor cemented their place in the British indie scene in the early 2000s, with early singles Fever and Good Souls achieving popular and critical acclaim. The band will be releasing their fifth studio album All This Life in September before heading out on tour in October.

For Starsailor’s James Walsh, performing at Hope & Glory will mark a return to a city he loves: “I’m in Liverpool all the time watching my favourite football team and heading out into town. I love it. I remember we recorded some b-sides at Parr St and headed out for a memorable night on Mathew St after the session.

“We’re really excited to be playing the first Hope & Glory Festival. The line up’s amazing. I’ve been lucky enough to see a lot of the acts before but I’ve heard great things about Charlotte Church’s show so I’m looking forward to catching that. Badly Drawn Boy is brilliant too. It’s been a while since I saw him.”

Singer songwriter Lucy Spraggan hit the limelight with an appearance on the X Factor in 2012, where she performed her own composition Last Night. She is the first contestant in the television programme’s history to achieve a Top 40 single and album with independently released Top Room At The Zoo. Liverpool is a city Lucy already knows and loves: “My wife’s family are all from Liverpool so we find ourselves over there a lot. When I was on TXF we did boot camp at the Echo, so that was pretty cool. I got a standing ovation in the arena – that’s a very fond memory!

“I love playing in Liverpool, its such an iconic city when it comes to music and culture. The line up is epic so I’m looking forward to watching some other acts.”

After the summer Lucy will be writing for her fifth album.

Hope & Glory has all the ingredients for a unique and memorable festival, celebrating in true Liverpool style the best of music and entertainment, rooted firmly in the city’s magnificent historical and cultural heritage.
