Badly Drawn Boy announced as headliner for RNIB’s inaugural SEE THROUGH SOUND concert

Badly Drawn Boy, Doc Brown, Kevin Simm, Vaults and Andy Jordan are the first artists confirmed to perform at the inaugural ‘SEE THROUGH SOUND’ concert in aid of RNIB (Royal National Institute of Blind People), with more artists to be announced.

Taking place at Cadogan Hall in London on Friday 14 October 2016, SEE THROUGH SOUND will bring together both established artists and some of the UK’s most promising breakthrough acts for an evening of live music in support of RNIB. To accompany the fantastic auditory experience, audience members will be given ‘sim specs’ (glasses simulating sight loss), providing an insight into living with sight loss and creating a unique atmosphere for concert-goers and artists alike.

Badly Drawn Boy’s appearance will follow last year’s UK tour which marked the 15th anniversary of his Mercury-prize winning album, ‘The Hour of Bewilderbeast’. Speaking about performing at the concert Damon Gough, better known as Badly Drawn Boy, said “I’m truly delighted to be playing at SEE THROUGH SOUND. Most of us take our sight for granted, this is an opportunity to understand a perspective on sound from people with limited or no vision.”

Also featuring on the line-up is Kevin Simm, winner of The Voice 2016 and former member of Liberty X, who will be performing songs from his forthcoming debut solo album. He will be joined by London-based electronic trio, Vaults, whose highly anticipated debut album is released in November, as well as singer-songwriter Andy Jordan, former star of the hit E4 TV series, Made in Chelsea.

Stand-up comedian, rapper and star of the film Life On The Road, Doc Brown, will be bringing his sharp wit to the show. He said: “RNIB does fantastic work supporting blind and partially sighted people here in the UK, and it’s a real honour to be on the bill for their inaugural SEE THROUGH SOUND gig. It’s going to be a night to remember!” Vaults said: “we are really excited and honoured to be playing for the SEE THROUGH SOUND event organised by RNIB in October. Great event, great line up!”

Kevin Simm’s reason for performing at the event is personal, as he explains: “the fact that sight has never been an issue for me has most definitely made me take it for granted and only since my son had to start wearing quite heavy prescription glasses did I really stop and think how lucky I am.”

Wanda Hamilton, RNIB Group Director of Fundraising, said: “RNIB’s SEE THROUGH SOUND aims to both entertain and educate music fans, providing them with the opportunity to experience live music in a whole new way. This concert will support us in achieving our goal of making every day better for the more than two million people living with sight loss across the UK.”

Tickets priced at £25 are available from www.ticketmaster.co.uk/seethroughsound or by calling 0844 844 0444. Updates to the line-up will be announced at http://www.rnib.org.uk/see-through-sound
