Soundtrack My Summer is a new regular feature where some of our favourite new bands put together a collaborative, morphing playlist to…well…soundtrack your summer. You can see Part 1 featuring Patrick Craig here but for the next installment we caught up with Aussies Tired Lion who release their ‘Figurine’ EP on 24th June via Island/Dew Process.
Spring King – Who Are You?
“This has that surf rock summer vibe, with that little bit more pumped into it. I love the little kick of sax that comes in just after the 2 minute mark. We’ re seeing these guys in Byron Bay (AUS) in July and will hopefully bump into them while we’ re over in the UK this coming month too.”
DOPE LEMON – Fuck Things Up
“This is Angus Stone’ s new project, it’ s chill and catchy. I’ve been listening to it a lot recently and it helps to put me in or keep me in a good mood. The sounds swirling around the crux of the tune are beautiful and sit nicely over the kick drum beats.”
Palehound – Molly
“This tune really keeps you guessing the driving verse with the rad guitar lines that cut straight through the mix too the floaty chorus. The instrumental surf rock section is a lovely little addition that always gets the vibe going and when you get to the end you want to go back and listen again and again!”
Violent Soho –How To Taste
“Again this is another of those songs that kicks off an album and gives you a taste *no pun intended* of what’ s to come. We landed in Brisbane earlier this year on the day ‘ WACO’ (Violent Soho’ s latest album) came out; jumped into the rental car, and blasted this song while trying to fill out rental forms. Such a rad vibe!”
PUP – If This Tour Doesn’t Kill You, I Will
“This is the first song on the latest PUP record and kind of acts like a tasting platter for the rest of the album. It’s bloody great! I heard this playing over the PA in a record store and immediately went home and bought the album”
