Cork metal/hardcore newcomers BAILER have just released their debut EP ‘Shaped By The Landscape’ – we caught up with the Irishmen to give us the lowdown on all the musical highlights of their home town.
THE BANDS
Horse
“We both came onto the local live scene around the same time in early 2015, and we immediately attached ourselves to these guys! Vocalist Ian O’Callaghan features at the end of “The Benefit Of Doubt” on our new record. Great production, and powerful, dark music.”
Emigra
“These guys are the heaviest band in Cork. We’ve also shared members over the years and they let us use their practice room for almost year when we were in the initial writing phase of the band. You can see our bassist Dave laying down the 5 string heft in this one.”
THE VENUES
Fred Zeppelins
“An anything goes type of venue. Small packed out rooms make the best shows sometimes. You can ram 100 people in here and have 2 layers of bodies, it’s so much fun. Huge supporters of local metal bands of any size.”
Triskel Arts Centre
“Really cool for all sort of shows / bands / performances. Real chill vibe, record store upstairs, and a great cafe and separate gig room downstairs.”
Cypruss Avenue
“Not that much happens here for local music as the rent is too high and the space too spread out, but you get a lot of international acts stopping here which is great. Every Time I Die, Architects, and Funeral For a Friend stopped here before. Packed out memorable shows, but not many have come by recently.”
CORK HANG OUT SPOTS
Tom Barrys
“The nicest beer garden in Cork, lovely pints and stone baked pizza’s all night. Best place to chill in the sun.”
The Vicarstown
“City Centre Pub, nice beer garden to hang out as well. Alex works behind the bar during the week so we’re always in there melting his brain!”
BDSM
“Most of the time has decent tunes, and you can get lots of nice whiskeys and cocktails in here. Couches inside and outside!”
Gulpd Cafe
“Nice spot to meet for a coffee or a munch, and again it has really nice hang out area outside. Run by music heads serving delicious food and beverages!”
