Chicago punk Mecca, Riot Fest, have only gone and performed a miracle – they’ll be reuniting horror-punk pioneers The Misfitsfor 2016.
Founding member Glenn Danzig, bassist Jerry Only, and the band’s long-time guitarist Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein will play together at both the Denver (Sept. 2-4) and Chicago (Sept. 14-16) versions of the festival under the name The Original Misfits.
The news comes after a 30 year acrimonious split – discussing a potential reunion in 2014, Only had previously told rock publication Loudwire, “The thing is, I have an obligation to our fans. A lot of our fans are young and the thing is, we’re a very positive organization. We may have a lot of scary s–t, but we’re working out, we take care of mom, we’ve got jobs. It’s no bullshit. We work for what we’re doing. If we bring Glenn back in and he’s going to bring that dark, that real black stuff to the table, I don’t want that.”
The rest of the festival lineup is to be announced soon.
