After the success of last year’s ‘Sensible Record Labels’ compilation vinyl for Record Store Day, Alcopop! Records have teamed up with their pals at some of the best forward-thinking indie labels around the country, and put together something special for RSD ’16 – The Sensible Record Labels compilation: Volume 2.
In contrast to the many highly-priced reissues and general major label dominance of RSD, this limited 12” vinyl champions some of the most creative independent labels, and will be priced at just £10 across all stores. The aim is to aid interested music fans in finding their favourite new tastemaker label!
As well as the record itself, which boasts eleven hand-picked tracks (one from each label), the package comes with a download card containing 150MB of content from every label, such as songs, videos, documents, photos and more.
Jack from curator Alcopop! Records said of the record:
“We love Record Store Day, but completely understand the criticisms that are levelled at it – and we’re keen, in our own small way, to redress the balance.
“We think RSD should be about musical discovery, and not paying through the nose for it, so we’ve asked eleven of our favourite labels to put forward a track for the record – and a stack of extras on the download card.
“None of them (or the bands) will make any money from this….in fact, Disc Manufacturing Services and Procards have helped make it viable for us. But it’s not about that. It’s about ace music, awesome labels and buying it from record stores.“
