Petition Launched To Name New Element In Tribute To Motörhead Front Man

Fans of rock and roll band Motörhead have launched a petition to name a newly discovered element in the periodic table ‘Lemmium’ in honour of Lemmy, the Motörhead front man who died last week.

Lemmy, whose real name is Ian Fraser Kilmister, died on December 28 aged 70, two days after he was diagnosed with cancer. The petition on change.org has so far amassed nearly 75,000 signatures.

It’s unclear whether the man himself would have been pleased with the proposed honour – commenting in an earlier interview prior to his death: “We were not heavy metal. We were a rock’n’roll band. Still are. Everyone always describes us as heavy metal even when I tell them otherwise. Why won’t people listen?”
