Track of the Day: Black Peaches – Fire & A Water Sign

A little slice of retro-infused funk for a Friday? Yes please, daddio. Best known as a long-time member of Hot Chip and Scritti Politti, Rob Smoughton and his alter-ego Grovesnor has released a number of albums to critical acclaim.

His latest project – Black Peaches – have just signed to 1965 Records and their debut track ‘Fire & A Water Sign’, which you can stream below, is an absolute scorcher. Ram-jammed with bongo solos, timpani drums, a bassline that could out-groove John Travolta on the dance floor and a guitar solo that Santana would be proud of, this one’s for all you Saturday Night Fever fashionistas.

Fire, fire and more fire – get out those platforms and get down to this new sound, much like the old sound, except a whole lot funkier baby. Available to download now, the track will also feature on a run of super limited white label 12” vinyl towards the end of the year which will, on it’s B side, feature a remix of the same track by Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard.
