JD & The Straight Shot are an intriguing prospect – new single ‘Better Find A Church’ stands on its own two feet as a slice of excellent Southern-tinged Americana, but the real interest lies in their charismatic eponymous front man.
As well as front man for the band, he’s exec chairman of Madison Square Garden, overseeing not only this iconic venue, but also the New York Knicks & Rangers. The band have supported some pretty big names, such as The Eagles, Dixie Chicks and Keith Urban.
Last year they released their new album, Where I’ve Been, produced by former Eagles guitarist, Joe Walsh – the single Hard To Find was featured in the critically acclaimed American comedy drama film, St Vincent, starring Bill Murray and Melissa McCarthy.
On ‘Better Find A Church’ they’ve clearly hit their stride – a confident and knowing tip of the hat to the New Orleans sound which takes influence from jazz, country and blues to create an atmospheric and swampy number that throbs with organic bass.
The band are currently working on their next studio album, due for release later in 2015.
