Festival preview: Long Division 2015

Wakefield. Home to rhubarbs, the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and the kitchen sink classic, this Sporting Life. But come this weekend, it’ll be home to Long Division 2015, a metropolitan music festival that brings together over 60 talented acts to this humble Yorkshire town.

It all begins today, on Friday 12th June, when The Grand and British Sea Power take the stage at Unity Works. But the hustle and bustle of it all kicks off on Saturday 13th June, with bands playing on a number of stages all 3 minutes from each other.

If you need some guidance on who to check out where, then here’s a look at what we’re looking forward to:

Serious Sam Barrett
The Hop (Downstairs), 16:30

Yorkshire folk bluesman Sam Barrett has been performing around Leeds since 2004 and has a strong loyal following. There’s authenticity, simplicity and beauty in his tales of Leeds and life up north that can melt any miner’s heart.

The Lovely Eggs
Unity Works (Minor Hall), 20:00

Husband and wife duo Holly Ross and David Blackwell are a grocery-trip trip. With their recent single ‘Magic Onion’ being released on the their own Egg Records, we can’t wait to see their seemingly whimsical songs being rocked out on stage.

Fat White Family
Unity Works (Major Hall), 19:15

Fat White Family are marvellously the most DGAF band around today. They’ve been doing the festival circuit solidly now for the last few years, and we’re excited to see how the folk of Wakefield react to their brand of sleaze.

Forever Cult
The Hop (Upstairs), 17:00

With their sound of pounding drums, fuzzed out guitar and growling vocals, Leeds locals Forever Cult have gained a reputation for their energetic live shows. We look forward to leaving this show with a buzz in our ears.

And while we’re still unsure whether to see Pulled Apart By Horses – the solid noise loving foursome with a new drummer in the mix, or Gentleman’s Pistols – rock and roll riffage who are back in our lives after a year’s absence, we’ll let the flow of the day guide us and report back to you.
