If you like music – in a sort of protective, “listen to this lovely melodic song” way – then Blacklisters probably aren’t for you. If you hate yourself, the rest of the world, music, all things good and wholesome etc, then they probably are.
Like a great swirling black hole of happiness, Blacklisters are the sort of band that can suck all the joy out of your life and leave you exhausted and decimated in a disorientating maelstrom of noise. If, like me, this sounds appealing to you then a.) there’s almost definitely something wrong with us [sorry to break it to you] and b.) you might want to listen to their new single ‘Cash Cow’ below.
The Leeds band have earned a reputation as a formidable live act through aggressive, confrontational performances riddled with dark humour, evidenced by frontman Billy Mason-Wood’s quote about the new track:
“We, Blacklisters have finally written a song so commercially viable, that money will literally fall out of the sky and into our eyes.”
Their forthcoming second album was recorded at Suburban Home Studios in Leeds with producer Matt Johnson, aka MJ of Hookworms and will be released on Smalltown America this Autumn on all formats including special edition vinyl.
In a time where the pursuit of individual happiness seems all-consuming, it seems appropriate that a band like Blacklisters could rise from the mire and ruin everyone’s life just in time for summer.
Awful bunch.
