Playlist:Our Life in Music with Death Team

Swedish duo Death Team‘s recent single ‘Dolphin Style’ is one of the best records we’ve heard so far in 2015. Seriously, it’s an absolute smasher. If you don’t believe us, we decided to post it again below just because we love it that much. In fact, we loved it so much that we had to find out what makes these newcomers tick, so we asked Mayka Edd and Johen Rafael Tilli to put together a special playlist of their biggest influences and favourite tracks – here are the results:

Death Team – Dolphin Style

Nirvana – Plateau

Mayka: I spent my entire youth together with my Nirvana records. Also I was obsessively in love with Kurt Cobain. The whole MTV Unplugged album is just pure genius.

Spice Girls – Wannabe

Johen: This song basically changed my life. It dosn’t matter if you listen to it from a lyric perspective, listen to the production or the fact that it was the debut single of Spice Girls. Its just amazing mind blowing stuff.

Crystal Castles – Air War

Mayka: When I first heard this song it felt like it was the sound of my brain. Il oved all the fun noises and the pitched voice. It felt like a completely new way of making music and I went from being an indie girl to an electro kid.

Fatboy Slim – Rockafeller Skank

Johen: So playful and so much personality! You can really hear on this song that Fatboy Slim had a fun time in the studio! I love this so much.

Moby – Porcelain

Mayka: Moby was played on MTV all the time when I was a child and he will forever have a place in my heart. This song is sooooooo sad and beautiful at the same time optimistic!

Britney Spears – …Baby One More Time

Johen: It was when I heard this song I understood that music is one of life’s most important elements. Written by Max Martin. Performed by Britney Spears. Im dying here. Its just too good. Goosebumps every time.

M.I.A – Paper Planes

Mayka: Finally a cool interesting female role model!!! This song was totally transformational for me and I started to create a plan for how I could become a singer myself.

Grimes – Oblivion

Johen: What I like about this is that is really original but yet so wonderful. Her music is just so cool and she shure proves that the development curve of pop music is far from linear.

Fever Ray – When I grow up

Mayka: This one gives me chills all over my body. it feels so ancient and mystical, makes me wanna run out in the woods!! And Karin Dreijers voice and expression is just amazing.

4hero – Les Fleur

Johen: I heard this song as a kid was really amazed. It got this spiritual thing going. Then the song was gone and the years went by but and I really wanted to find this song but I had nothing to go on, I didn’t know the name of the artist or even the song name. 14 years later I was at a party and a hipster boy played the song from his phone.
