Chester-based Idle Frets‘ intuitive new direction and sound has recently seen them poking their head above the parapet of the local scene in the North West and scoring some serious support slots; now, latest single ‘Aftershow’ looks set to help them onto the national stage.
Custom made for radio, the new track has a heart that grooves and a vocal (courtesy of Davies) that drips with emotive cool. Layered synths and Nile Rogers-referencing guitars partner up with a driving rhythm section to deliver a killer slice of anthemic indie pop that could well find itself at home across a number of festival stages this summer.
“We like to write honest songs about things the average listener can get – something people can understand and connect with” says front man Ben Davies “In terms of our sound it’s a question we really don’t like to answer and we never know what to say – we’ve always seemed to slip into saying we’re an indie rock band, but it’s more textural than that, especially with the new outfit, a really different and fresh sound.”
They play a special single release for ‘Aftershow’ at The Shipping Forecast in Liverpool on 24th April.
