Every Sunday evening, BBC Southern Counties Radio and BBC Radio Solent bring you the best new music from the region's unsigned bands on South:Live with Phil Jackson.
The show features a weekly demo panel during which three tracks are
evaluated by a panel of music industry experts. Each demo receives roughly a minute and a half of air-play, after which each of the panellists discusses the merits of the track, and rate it out of a possible ten points. Also, all of the tracks appear on the show's website, where they can also be listened to and evaluated by the show's listeners. The artist/band with the highest score are invited back to have an interview the following week, and the winning track is added to the South:Live playlist. In addition, they are also short-listed for a possible live session on a subsequent show.
Trevor Madison from Brighton's award-winning venue Concorde2 has regularly contributed to these panels and he has offered a guaranteed gig for every band/artist that wins the panel every month upstairs at the Concorde's sister venue, The Albert. This new initiative is called the South:Live Albert sessions and they are supported by the Concorde 2, The Albert, BBC Southern Counties Radio and BBC Radio Solent. These gigs will take place on the last Monday of the month, and admission is FREE!
