We caught up with Daryl Pryor from melodic metalcore outfit High Hopes to chat about their April run of UK dates supporting Pay No Respect and the release of the band’s sophomore full-length Sights And Sounds, which is out on the 5th February 2016 via Victory Records.
When we first started playing music…
We weren’t very good, everyone has to start somewhere right?! But hey we wouldn’t be where we are today if we didn’t pick up the instruments in the first place!
If we had to choose a new name for the band it would be ‘anything other than High Hopes’ because…
After 3 years we’ve heard literally every pun under the sun that has to do with our band name, so it’d be nice to not have terrible puns thrown our way when we’re out with friends.
We knew we were on to something when…
Victory records sent through the initial record contract. Such a huge label releasing some of our favourite records actually taking an interest in us was absolutely mind blowing!
Our biggest non-musical influences is…
Burritos, lets face it who doesn’t like a burrito? Wherever we are on tour, once we’ve loaded in theres always time to find a burrito place and stuff our faces!
We’re most proud of…
Krishan’s flowing locks! Just look at that gorgeous long flowing hair, he’s spent years making it look that good and we’re all so so proud of him.
Our ideal support slot would be…
I think we’d all agree on Parkway Drive, a band that deserves every second of success that they get. They’ve worked hard for what they have, haven’t been given anything on a platter and seem like the coolest dudes! Its definitely a work ethic we aspire to.
Something we haven’t achieved yet which we’d like to is…
US Warped tour, since I was a kid I’ve always wanted to go, let alone play it. Now that we’ve got a big US backing we’re all crossing our fingers that we’ll get to head out on it in the coming years.
Our favourite place to hang out is…
Lake Cauma in Switzerland, make sure you look it up because it almost looks like something thats been dreamt up. A fresh water lake barely touched by people and in the summer its the best place to go on a day off on tour. The perfect hangover cure!
We can’t stop listening to…
Counterparts – Tragedy Will Find Us. Collectively its our album of 2015, we draw a huge influence from those guys and they’ve helped us a lot in the past, great dudes who write great music.
We’re not ashamed to admit that…
We regularly listen to the new Justin Bieber album when we’re away touring. Lets face it, its brilliant!
If we could wave a magic wand and make anything in the world happen it would be…
Anti gravity, I think it would just be interesting and a whole lot of fun initially. Although it would probably get really annoying after a while, trying to cope with day to day activities not being able to fully control your movements.
Someone you might not have heard of that you should check out is…
Black Coast for sure! Brand new band coming out of Stoke-On-Trent, putting a twist on the standard Metal/Hardcore genre. Think Stray From The Path and Architects but rawer and more attitude. Check it!
